"His master replied, 'Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!'". --Matthew 25:21, 23
There are seven primary stewardships repeatedly identified in Scripture.
These are the “few things.”
Everything else expands from these.
FAITHFULNESS IN YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD (ABIDING)
This is first and foundational.
Jesus said:
“Remain in Me, and I will remain in you… apart from Me you can do nothing.”
— John 15:4–5
Your first stewardship is not building anything external.
It is maintaining alignment with God.
This includes:
listening
abiding
obeying
remaining connected
This stabilizes everything else.
Without this, expansion collapses.
FAITHFULNESS IN WHAT IS CURRENTLY ENTRUSTED (SMALL STEWARDSHIP)
Jesus said:
“Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much.”
— Luke 16:10
This includes whatever is already in your hands.
David’s sheep.
Moses’ flock.
The disciples’ small ministry.
Faithfulness here builds capacity.
Not ambition.
Stewardship determines expansion.
FAITHFULNESS IN CHARACTER
Character determines what you can sustain.
Proverbs says:
“The integrity of the upright guides them.”
— Proverbs 11:3
This includes:
honesty
humility
obedience
consistency
Character sustains structure.
Without character, expansion destroys.
FAITHFULNESS IN RESPONSIBILITY FOR PEOPLE
Jesus repeatedly emphasized this.
“Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom the master has put in charge of his household?”
— Matthew 24:45
Faithfulness includes caring for people entrusted to you.
Not exploiting them.
Not neglecting them.
Shepherding them.
This is central to Kingdom stewardship.
FAITHFULNESS IN WHAT BELONGS TO SOMEONE ELSE
This is one of the most overlooked but important principles.
Jesus said:
“If you have not been faithful with what belongs to someone else, who will give you what is your own?”
— Luke 16:12
This includes:
current opportunities
current responsibilities
current systems
current relationships
Faithfulness here qualifies you for greater stewardship.
FAITHFULNESS IN HANDLING RESOURCES
This includes money, time, influence, and opportunity.
Jesus said:
“If you have not been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches?”
— Luke 16:11
Resource stewardship reflects internal order.
God expands stewardship when resources are handled faithfully.
FAITHFULNESS IN THE SPECIFIC ASSIGNMENT GOD HAS GIVEN YOU
Paul describes this clearly:
“It is required that those who have been given a trust must prove faithful.”
— 1 Corinthians 4:2
Faithfulness in your assignment—regardless of scale—is what qualifies expansion.
