Accountability in Prayer

Just know one thing: when you pray, God is going to answer your prayer.

What does that mean for you and me?

It means we need to be watchful. Pay attention to patterns, the dynamics of situations, and the changes happening around you so you can recognize how God is moving.

His answer to your prayers may not look like the exact answer you are expecting—at least not yet.

He has to work.

And in His working, you are often given a faith seed first to build your faith. That seed is not the full answer; it is simply the beginning stage of what will grow into the answer to your prayer.

Again, you have to stay vigilant. You have to remain watchful and endure through the waiting.

One of the hardest things for me personally is that I get easily distracted and forgetful. So when a “situationship” happens in my life, I react without remembering that I prayed for something different.

But we have to remember: in order for our situation to change, or for something to bring change into our lives, we have to respond differently. Our response helps drive that change.

Things that help me stay on course are reflection journals and reflection boards. This is where I essentially “hang” my prayers so they remain right in front of me, allowing me to watch God answer them in real time.

So remember, prayers never go unanswered. He will always answer those who cry out to Him. It’s who He is.

If you are not seeing anything yet, get more grounded. Slow life down. Read a book or listen to a podcast that helps you become more aware and discerning in different situations.

Most of the time, the change happens within us. Not always, but often. We have to remember that the prayers we pray should be purposeful so that we remain accountable before both God and ourselves.

So pray with purpose and accountability.

He is always there.
